UK celebs are on a South African mission

South Africa has enough natural beauty to attract tourists without much effort on the part of the South African Tourism Board, but that doesn’t mean that the organisation rests on its laurels. It has recently launched a brand new campaign called My Mission South Africa, in which four UK celebrities will go on themed adventure holidays in the country and report on their thrilling experiences. The celebs in question are Monty Don, Jamie Theakston, Chris Packham and Gloria Hunniford. Don is a celebrity gardener and has hosted a number of radio and television shows, most notably the TV series Gardeners’ World. His holiday will fittingly focus on South Africa’s varied plant life, including the Harold Porter Botanical Garden and the gardens at Kirstenbosch. He’ll also pop into to the Green Futures Horticultural and Life Skills College at the Grootbos Private Nature Reserve. Theakston is a jack of all trades and is an accomplished radio and TV presenter, actor and producer. You may have seen him on Top of the Pops or the TV series Mad About Alice. His holiday will be more adventurous with quad biking, game tracking, bungee jumping, surfing and shark cage diving. Packham is a wildlife expert and has filmed shows for National Geographic and also presented some wildlife TV series for UK audiences. He will start off exploring Soweto by bike and then move to more familiar territory by going to the Kruger Park, Sabi Sabi Reserve and the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. Hunniford is also a radio and TV presenter. In addition to being the only woman in the group, she is also the oldest of the group, so perhaps it’s fitting that she should experience South Africa’s luxury. She’ll have spa treatments, enjoy shopping and fine dining and generally live it up. The celebs will post updates to an interactive website, which will also include information on their itineraries. Updates will also be posted on Twitter and Facebook. The website features a My Mission Builder, which allows web users to create their own ultimate South African holidays.
