The Slave Trade Fort at Ponta Romero Lighthouse is an open plan historical monument where slaves were auctioned off and also a look out point for incoming ships. The birthplace of Maconde Tribes initially with tattooed faces and ebony buttons worn in the upper lips of women, pride themselves as skillful sculptors, creating expressive and aesthetic helmet masks, which are used by dancers with vigor and emotion at the traditional festivals and ceremonies.
The tropical climate is slightly humid with two distinct annual seasons. Average temperature ranges 21o C to 32o C. The hot rainy season usually runs from December to April which are short showers often late afternoon or night. Do remember the coastline of Mozambique is 3 700 km long. Down south the weather is like South Africa, wet rainy weather for days on end. Inhambane area is known for receiving the tail end of cyclones from Madagascar thus resulting in severe rainfall. This hardly affects Northern Mozambique, 50 kilometers around Pemba is known as the dry belt area. This eco-friendly program is respected and blessed by the community. Brenda, the owner is very passionate in her work, motivating conservation in the community and protecting this stunning environment and all its residents.
